Taekwondo
The word "Taekwondo" can be broken down and translated in parts:
"Tae" means "foot"
"Kwon" means "fist"
"Do" means "the art or the way"
Therefore, Taekwondo literally means "foot-fist-way" or
"The Way of Fist and Foot Fighting."
BENEFITS FOR CHILDREN
Taekwondo can offer a variety of benefits to children. Besides gaining a sense of individual accomplishment often lacking in team sports, Taekwondo improves a child's self-confidence and self-discipline. These qualities are often carried over into their home life and school work, thus improving their life as a whole.
Our children's program specifically emphasizes the importance and value of self-control, integrity, perserverance, and treating people with courtesy and respect.
BENEFITS FOR ADULTS
Takewondo incorporates many important concepts that are sought by men and women concerning overall fitness. It provides a source of stress reduction, strengthening and toning of muscles, and greater flexibility, while learning an efficient method of self-defense. Our school is committed to health, fitness, and achieving the goals of each individual student.
PRINCIPLES OF TAEKWONDO
Taekwondo training emphasizes the development of both the body
and mind.
It accomplishes this through the use of three principles of training:
- Forms or Poomse
- Practical Defense Techniques or "PDTs"
- Sparring or "Kroogi."
Each principle of training emphasizes a different aspect of Taekwondo:
FORMS
Balance & Coordination.
PDTs
Technique and Practical Defense uses.
SPARRING
Overall combination of balance, coordination, technique, and stamina.
As you train in Taekwondo, you will learn and become proficient
in all three areas.
The combination of these aspects will help you to reach your full potential!
